Enable / Disable Probes & Sensors : Discovery

Hello all,

I would like to make this a semi-generic question to help more people. My question is: Where do I go to turn on and off probes and sensors and what should I know before doing it?

My question with background: We are running discovery against some Solaris machines and they do not have sneep or lsof installed. We need to know how to disable the probes and sensors that are returning the messages :

1) We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System

Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.

#2) Think before you type.

#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

sudo: lsof: command not found

and 2) -bash: sneep: command not found

I have read about it Discovery Probes and Sensors - ServiceNow Wiki of course, but I want to fully understand the process before I change anything.

Discovery Definition > CI Classification > UNIX > Solaris > Triggers probes > Edit... > Remove from Triggers probes List.

Associated sensors will not react when probe is not there.

On a   side not, why don't you want serial number of your Solaris machines? Imho it's important from asset management perspective.

Is this the right area? This is the part that gets the serial number so should be what is used. More importantly, is checking Active to turn this Sensor off all I need to do or is there a probe I need to adjust also?

I second what Ankush says about removing probes.. In the extreme you can choose not to include any of the Exploration probes but you dont want to mess with the identity probe remember, we only create or update records on a positive identification

Absolutely correct. After discussions we are not going to disable them either. The bigger concern here was to learn where and how.

Thank you kindly for the answer!
