Flagging Servers Deployed via Automation

We've been seeing a steady increase of new servers being deployed onto our infrastructure via Azure Pipelines (using Terreform, Ansible, etc.). We're trying to find a way for the pipeline team to 'mark' these servers so when discovery picks them up, we can automatically assign the server CI's to their team.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how best to approach this?  For Windows servers, we're considering adding a registry entry in these builds in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\<company>.  For Linux, we're thinking of an .ini file in \etc or \proc.

Is there a better way we haven't considered?  The approach above would require a modification to the discovery pattern, or perhaps a business rule on cmdb_ci_server.  Just want to make sure we considered all options before proceeding.
