How do people model SAAS in the CMDB?

How do you model your organizations Office 365 instance, or other Software As A Service applications in the Enterprise CMDB?

The default fields on the CMDB_CI_APPL table don't really seem to let you show the differences between and report on application that are not hosted in our datacenter.   Or do people track it in a different table?

We are on Helsinki.

Philip,

We chose to extend the Application Softwares (cmdb_ci_application_software) class as there are specific attributes that we want to track just for SAAS/PAAS/Hosted/Cloud-based applications.

Hope this helps!

So you didn't find an out of the box solution either?

What fields did you create on the extended table?

Philip,

No we didn't. Originally we just added an attribute in the Application Softwares (cmdb_ci_application_software) class to identify these types of applications but eventually the configuration management team decided that they wanted a separate class just for them.

As for class specific attributes, we currently only have one that identifies it as a cloud-based software Our configuration management team is currently collecting data on the enterprise (we have probably several hundred cloud based applications) so they can actually build this out.

It is entirely possible that in the future we may end up just moving the applications back to the parent table and then deleting the new class if they cannot come up with a compelling reason for it to exist. Sitting here thinking about it, I cannot think of a single attribute that I wouldn't want to track for on-premise application as well.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

I was wondering if someone knew where SAAS CI Class is in CMDB?

Thank you,
