Hello Guys,
As we all know every server should be linked with is hypervisor(May be VMware VM Instance or EC2 Instance) in theory.
But at present this is not the case.
So wanted to find out the CI's which are not linked to Its Hypervisor(VMWare Virtual Machine Instance) and build a report on that so it is possible to get them linked weekly or monthly?
I have checked the relationship table by applying the filter type is : Virtualized by::Virtualizes and parent class is VMWare virtual instance but don't found any records.,which is wrong as there are servere linked to VMWare VM Instance. How to do this?
Is this possible?
Regards,
Mahak

How are you discovering the virtualization layer? For VMWare are you running a discovery against a vCenter Server? If not you won't get those relationships built. I forget if it is a sensor or part of the pattern, but it attempts to link these based on correlation-id (VM Instance) to serial number (Linux or Windows).
Likewise for Amazon, if you don't have a schedule discovering the EC2 virtualization then you won't get the relationships built. In this case the link is built using correlation-id (Linux or Windows Server) and object-id (vm instance)

Hello Duane,
Yes we are running the discovery against the Vcenter Server.
But there are servers linked to VMWare VM Instance then also they are not having this "Virtualized by::Virtualizes" in the Relationship table.
So how can we find out which servers are linked through their hypervisors and which aren't?
Thanks,
Mahak

The Servers are linked to the VM Instance.
The Servers are linked to the Virtualization
VM Instance is linked to a Virtual Data Center.
The relationships I see (pattern discovery) for Windows and Linux Servers are below. Are you saying that you do not see this?
Also a problem we have had in the past is for Linux, dmidecode was not running properly during discovery; as such no Serial Number and no way to relate the 2.

Hello Duane,
Thank you for clearing my doubt.
I thought server and VMware VM Instances were linked through Virtualized by::Virtualizes type of relationship, but they are linked through Instantiates::Instantiated by relationship.
Now if i want to find the servers which are not linked to their respective VMware VM Instance on CI Relationship Table.
Is it possible to find those servers and then linked them to their respective instances by sending the report.
I have tried but not able to find those servers.

Mahak
