Why do you need to create a new class, ServiceNow has OOB tables which you can utilise. Some appliances are just server which can be stored in cmdb_ci_server class where you can mention the type of server as appliance in category field, same way cmdb_ci_netgear table for network devices. This is just my initial thought.
Can you elaborate on what do you mean when you say appliance.
