If we dont have Event Management Integration, What will be the Impact on Service Mapping

We had to descope the Nagios and Event Management Integration as Nagios is getting decommissioned. There will not be any Event Management Integration with Servicenow as of now.

We will be starting with Service Mapping. We need to know the impact of no event management integration on Service Mapping?

As CI will not be mapped with any Event now. Please share you thoughts.

The impact of not having Event Management on your Service Mapping maps is that the maps won't have CIs related to alerts automatically, ie. if one of the CIs that make up a Business Service goes down, this CI will not be marked as down automatically as you no longer have Event Management so you won't know whether the Business Service have been impacted in case a critical dependent CI goes down.

Another query- We create INC from Inbound email configuration.
Suppose an Critical INC is created for any particular CI. Will service mapping by any chance pick up that and mention that in service mapping show the impact of the Critical INC on complete Business service?

There will be no impact as far as implementation of Service Mapping is concerned. It is kind of a pre-requisite for event management.

But the usefulness of a service-aware CMDB will be enhanced a lot if we use event management. It will tremendously improve the Incidents MTTR . As it can pin point where is the defect, corresponding team can be engaged to fix it and also the impact  of the incident can be known even before a anything noticeable happens. And other benefits. You can also have auto-remediation in place which will reduce the workload of the agents.

Have an analytics in place to analyse the event to incident ratio and other details

Thanks a lot.

I believe one of the key function of service mapping is to check if Business Services are in place.

But if the event management itself is not there. Then, I guess it will only the mapping on CIs. We won't know whether the Business Service have been impacted in case a critical dependent CI goes down.

Please correct me if I am wrong and share your thoughts?
