Is Discovery Tool supposed to create hardware models or "product models"?

Is Discovery Tool supposed to create hardware models or "product models" when it discovers a new item that is not set up as a hardware model?

Seems that both our bulk load processes and discovery processes create "product models" - and do not associate the model category and such when it runs and doesn't find a match.   Can someone explain how this SHOULD work - and maybe point me to some recommended governance on models / model management, please?

bsweetser - any input on this topic?

Hi BJ, is this ALL "hardware" you are discovering, only certain protocols (SNMP only and works ok for SSH for example), class of device (servers vs network gear) and so on?

Drew, yes, my question was concerning hardware devices and glad you asked that next question about the models - we are having same issue.

Hi BJ,

We are also facing the similar issue in our instance. Could you please confirm what fix or workaround you applied for this issue?

issue - discovery process creates "product models" and it doesn't update / identify the correct model category - so the CI / Assets are not created properly.

When you say "product models" do you mean hardware models?  Assets is supposed to use hardware models. (cmdb_hardware_product_model.list). In our system we had duplicate models that was a pain to clean up.  One record was a product model and one was a hardware model.  Hope this helps.
