Is it possible to use event management without CMDB in ITOM

Hi,

We have an requirement to use event management of ITOM to generate event, and then convert to alert and generate incident in ITSM.
Is it possible to just use event management without maintance CMDB. (Since each configuration items will charge subscription unit and we don't need ITOM health and ITOM visibility functionality of ServiceNow)
As my understanding, the logic of event management is convert event to alert according to defined rule and CMDB looks not mandatory for this.

By the way, if event management can be used independent(without CMDB), then how to subscribe the ITOM Subscription Unit in this case? All events will be sent to serviceNow from one montior server through MID server.

It will be appreciated if someone can help to answer it.

Please check this with ServiceNow sales contact but CMDB is included with NOW platform. ITOM discovery pricing is based on number of devices (devices are represented by CI). If ITOM Discovery is not required, it's still possible to use CMDB. Without CMDB, it would be difficult to use ITSM also.

It is possible to populate CI without using ITOM Discovery. However, I think it was that event management feature to convert events to requests is part of ITOM Event Management. This will require subscription to use.

It is possible to use Event Management without discovery. In this case, it is necessary to enter all the CIs first into CMDB (note that CMDB is abbreviation for Configuration Management Database and is the database containing all the CIs).

Finally, it is possible to just use CMDB without Discovery nor Event Management. In this case, it is necessary to develop your own.

Hi Rich - you can use event management without the CMDB being populated and do as you note with ingesting events to alerts to incidents.  However, the event management components will not be activated on an instance with a subscription to ITOM Health at minimum.  Regardless of all other advanced features in ITOM Health, the base capabilities still require a subscription.

Hi Rich,

You can use Event Management without the CMDB. If the CI's present in CMDB for which events will be generated.

But, as end to end solution with ITOM-Event Management will use CMDB and correlate CI with alerts and created incidents or any remediation flows.
