Hi Folks,
Currently we are facing an issue with CI discovery where we have multiple IP address with single CI (Linux VM) .
The problem is , every time the discovery runs , IP is changing itself , do we have any option to have the primary IP of the CI to be static (management IP). Most of the Database VM's will have multiple Ethernet adapters with IP's assigned.
May be an option like Management IP which we have provided for discovery can be set as the primary IP of that CI in service now.
Thanks & Regards,
Jijo John

Hey Jijo John. It looks like you may need to build out your CMDB Identification rules a bit.
Here is a article that might help: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/newyork-servicenow-platform/page/product/configuration-management...

Jijo, what you are seeing there is natural OOB behavior. We 'randomly' set any IP that we discovered on a valid NIC card to fill the IP Address attribute. You have a couple of options.
You can change the discovery definition > properties > Enforce syncing of IP addresses to false. Or you can build a BR that based on your logic that sets the attribute after the fact. So if say you always want ETH0 to be your managed IP address you can use that rule to populate that value after discovery.

Thank you Doug , we will check the option of Enforce syncing of IP addresses.
Also if we can use a custom rule like , in our case only the primary IP will have the default gateway assigned to that NIC , all other NIC will not have the gateway assigned. Can we use this logic?

Hi Jijo John,
Yes..Sometimes devices could have multiple IP addresses on the network. Suppose a device has IP addresses A, B, and C, during a Discovery, and all three IP addresses respond to Shazzam (port scanning). Therefore, Discovery sends out a probe for each of the IP addresses. During the identification phase, Discovery at some point realizes that the three IP addresses are actually the same device and simply pick one to finish the Discovery (whatever IP Discovery happens to find first). Here is an example of what it looks like:
