MID Server with self-hosted instances

Hello Guru,

I have an issue with MID Server (Utah), I would like to use it to connect to Azure Cloud Discovery, meaning on internet.

I have set-up a proxy server but as the Servicenow instance is hosted in a private cloud, the MID is not able to connect to it with the proxy configured, all the communications are going thru the proxy.

Is there an option or property to bypass the proxy for internal IPs? I didn't found nothing on the doc.

Thanks !

Fred

Hello Martin,

Unfortunately no...the only option you have is to install a local proxy like privoxy https://www.privoxy.org/ on the same MID server.

With privoxy you can chain the proxies, for ex. to reach Azure on an external gateway.

It works really fine for us, privoxy is open-source and reliable.

Hi @Fr_d_ric Dhuez ,

Iam currently in a similary environment and we have did the same. configure a dedicated mid server with proxy config and that must do your job.

HI Fred, thanks for the quick response!

Now Support is pointing to this doc:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/washingtondc-it-operations-management/page/product/it-operations-...

which says, you should install a MID Server inside the cloud environment for IP based Discovery. Have you considered this option as well?

Hi Martin,

Yes I know this option, but it's not Cloud discovery with APIs, it's Cloud discovery IP based like a normal discovery but directly inside the cloud.

So, you have 2 options to gather data from the cloud, remotely with APIs or remotely by installing a MID inside the cloud, different approach.

I think it's depend what you need to gather and why.

I believe that using cloud discovery with APIs is more convenient.

When you say -  Servicenow instance is hosted in a private cloud ...Meaning Its an ON PREMISE Service Now Setup not Running on Service Now Cloud?
