Can anyone tell me why the Network Gear table doesn't have an Operating System Field?

I don't know why there is no Operating System Field for Network Gear (cmdb_ci_netgear). But, by default, the Out-of-the-Box patterns will put the operating system information into the Description (short_description) field.

Hi, I think you would need to ask ServcieNow for a formal explanation (if one is available),
I would guess that as a generic 1 size fits all 'firmware' was considered appropriate for the majority of network type hardware.

Thanks Tony. I did ask SNow and they said it was an architectural decision not to have it in does tables.
