Hi,
I am trying to troubleshoot an issue, where for a CI's, Operational Status field is 'Retired', even when Most recent discovery is recent date.
1. Are these fields dependent? If yes, when discovery runs, how it updates the Operational Status field, is there any way.
2. When discovery runs, means Most recent discovery field will be updated, does this means Operational Status should be always be updated to Deployed? Or it is okay if is 'Retired'.
Can anyone, please tell me where should I check for this.
I am new to CMDB and Discovery. Help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

HI,
Agree with Robert.
We do have processess in place to mark this Devices Retired when then most recent discovery is more that 45 days. So in that way we know that the device was not discovered via discovery and might be decommissioned or there are some issues with this device.
So your administrators can have a look into this and have a proper way of reporting. Now whenever ServiceNow discovery sees this device on network and if we scan it then it will update the most recent discovery regardless of the status of this device.
Thanks,
Ashutosh

Hi Ashutosh,
Please let us know which process marks to Devices "Installed status" as Retired when the CI is not discovered and most recent discovery is more that 45 days.

Anyone have any idea how the MID Server could be setting CIs to "Retired"? That would suggest it is a part of the Discovery process, not a Business Rule.

Hi,
Discovery will not set it retired. It has to be handle explicitly.
Thanks,
Ashutosh
