ServiceNow Discovery Not Identifying All Expected CIs

Hi Community,

I'm using ServiceNow Discovery with a MID Server to identify CIs in our environment. Although Discovery has created or updated a couple of CIs, many expected CIs are not being identified, and I’m unsure why.

Issue:

  • Discovery is only identifying a small number of CIs, even though multiple devices are scanned.
  • Many devices show statuses like “Classifying” or “Active, couldn’t classify” in Discovery, with no CI created or updated.

Request:

I’m looking for advice on how to ensure comprehensive CI identification in Discovery. Specifically:

  • Are there additional configuration steps or probe adjustments that could improve CI detection?
  • Could there be permissions, network, or setup factors we might be overlooking, especially for VMware-related CIs?
  • Any best practices or known issues that might help in ensuring all expected assets are discovered and classified?

Any guidance on making Discovery more thorough and resolving the classification issues would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Sanjida

Mostly for that error credentials are missing, you can try with those ip's are the credentials are validated and check if the ip affinity was created.

Thank you so much for sharing it! I will go through it and see if it addresses the issue. I will keep you updated about how it goes. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out!

The tutorial really helped me to understand the problem better! In the video, they resolved the issue by creating a configuration item parameter, but unfortunately, the parameter name they selected from the dropdown isn’t available in my PDI. I genuinely appreciate your help, though, and this has definitely brought me closer to a solution!
