Storage Discovery when port 427 is refused

Will storage discovery work if during Shazzam SLP Probe on port 427 is refused but WBEM/5989 is open? What is the purpose of the SLP port?

Background: we are trying to disocver a EMC XtremIO. According to EMC support port 427 can't be opened - only 5989 is open

Hmmm, but the DOC clearly states that SLP is required.

And what I observer is that discovery of the storage server runs into an error. The CIM Identity probe returns: "XMIO_StorageSystem{CreationClassName='XMIO_StorageSystem',Name='f730443f81d34c2b8871524f16b98f6a'}.CIM_SystemPackaging{{ResultClass:'CIM_PhysicalPackage', PackageType='3'}}.* - CIM_SystemPackaging - No response received."

Could that be because of the non responsive SLP port?

Doug is right. Port 427 is not neccesarily needed. We discovered the storage even though that port was not accessible.

Hi gk,

could you let us know how did you discovered XtremIO without 427. without 427 we are only able to get WBEM service in discovery.

gk, did you ever get XtremIO discovered?  We are in the same boat, trying to use SMI-S, but even from the built in provider and using it's CIM browser, can't see all data, get strange account errors, even though the simple account setup within XtremIO is just the readonly setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thank you in advance!
