What are TD, LP and HD from Azure discovery patterns stand for?

Karim Kabbara1

Hi,

I am trying to understand the meaning of these acronyms. I know that TD stands for Top-Down discovery pattern. However, I am unsure if HD stands for Horizontal discovery pattern and what LP stands for. Can you please provide clarification?

Thank you!

Karim

Hi @Karim Kabbara1,

  1. TD: Top-Down Discovery Pattern

This pattern involves starting the discovery process from the top-level resource, often a management group or subscription, and then descending into the hierarchy to discover resources at lower levels. It's a hierarchical approach where the discovery begins with the broader organizational structure and drills down to specific resources.
  2. HD: Hierarchical Discovery Pattern

HD stands for Hierarchical Discovery Pattern. This aligns with the idea that discovery progresses through a hierarchy, moving from broader scopes to more granular levels within the Azure environment.
  3. LP: Linear Discovery Pattern

LP stand for Linear Discovery Pattern. In a linear pattern, the discovery process follows a sequential or linear progression, possibly moving through resources or scopes in a more straightforward manner without the hierarchical structure emphasized in top-down discovery.

Hi Ehab,

Thank you for reply. I did take a look at that documentation but I couldn’t find your definitions.
Sounds reasonable.

Thanks again!
