Windows server discovery without WMI credentials

Hi All,

I'm looking to confirm if a Windows Server CI Record will still be created if Discovery can find it via an IP address (i.e. no WMI credentials have been configured)?

Hi Michael,

Yes, ServiceNow Discovery can still create a Configuration Item (CI) record for a Windows Server even if it only finds it via an IP address and no WMI credentials have been configured.

ServiceNow Discovery can perform a credential-less discovery. These scans discover all the active IP addresses in the specified range and create device history records. However, without credentials, the discovery might not be able to gather as much detailed information about the device.

It's important to note that while a CI record can be created in this way, the amount of information that can be discovered and populated into the CMDB might be limited. For a more comprehensive discovery of a Windows Server, WMI credentials would typically be required.

In order to do IP based discovery you will need to read registry information from the target machine. That are done with power shell commands. In order to run them you will need credentials.

You can use agent client collector. That will help you to get all the details without credentials.

Hi Michael

Service Now Discovery is technically possible without any Credentials - How

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/washingtondc-it-operations-management/page/product/discovery/conc...

But Credential less discovery will not give you enriched CMDB Server Data.  REST is already explained by Experts in replies.
