If you've upgraded to Eureka Patch 9, you may have noticed that variables in your variable sets are no longer displayed in their intended order. In addition, the default value for the Order field at the Related Lists level has been removed. If you go to a catalog item and create a new variable set in the related list, the Order field remains empty. When you view the catalog item, you'll find that the variable set displays incorrectly since the order was never considered.

Variable sets are super useful since they help define multiple catalog items that use the same group of service catalog variables. You can group variables together and share this group between multiple catalog items and order guides. This allows you to quickly set up a request process using the same variables — and in the order you want.

To fix the variable order issue, you should set the Order field on the Related Lists level to link the catalog item and variable set, rather than setting the variable set's Order field. Particularly when a variable set is used by more than one catalog item, using the catalog variable set record associated with the item helps you to define item-specific ordering and provides more flexibility in your layout (See Setting Item-Specific Orders for Variable Sets).

To view and edit the catalog variable set order for an item:

  1. Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definition > Maintain Items.
  2. Open the catalog item to edit.
  3. Navigate to the Variable Sets related list.
  4. Click on the reference icon for the variable set.
  5. Set the order value as required.
