What is the best practice to add a field to the CMDB?
Situation: I've been asked to add a column (probably to the ci_hardware table) with the local name of the vlan the IP address assigned to the device resides in to facilitate reporting based on vlan rather than IP or Gateway.
First: Is there a better way to provide a report of all networked devices grouped by vlan (with the vlan name) than extending the CMDB?
Second: If extending the CMDB is the cleanest way, what is the best way to populate the new field?
