Auto generate warranty field based on purchase date

Hi All,

I'm looking for the best way to go about auto generating information in a date field.

When enter new assets, we would input the date of purchase for the laptop.   What we need to do then is have that populate the warranty expiration field based on that date +3 years.   Can anyone shed some light on the best way to do this? Would it be a business rule, client script, or is there a better option all together?

Hi John,

Take a look at my blog post on using the Model record to help assist with this: Model Extension: Model Management Part 8. I don't cover in much detail how to set the Warranty expiration based on the Purchase date, but I did something similar to identify the scheduled retirement. It uses a Business Rule because you would set it when the Asset record is created based on the Model details in this scenario.
