I am currently working with ServiceNow to configure and launch the Field Service Management application. One of the requirements is to use a barcode scanner (either external or embedded tablet camera) to scan assets on service calls.
For the first phase of this project we are really talking about just populating 1 field on the form. I've looked a a couple solutions, one being Mobile Reach. From my understanding these are essentially front-ends for ServcieNow. The products look great, but for the scope of what we are looking to accomplish these solutions are overkill.
Has anyone been able to find a solution for a similar functionality? Here is a basic summary of the process:
1. Field Service Tech shows up on a repair call
2. Using a 4G tablet they open the Work Order Task in ServiceNow
3. They select a reference field on the form (i.e. CI)
- initiate the scanning feature,
- scan the barcode on the defective or replacement part,
- the field is populated with the item associated with the scanned barcode

There are some possibilities on the Share site: ServiceNow Share
Also, consider the example used in the document attached to CreatorCon_Workshop_Rapid_Business_Application_Development_with ServiceNow_Guide

Thank you. These are good leads. I'll see if one of the solutions will work for our requirements.
