Best practice to retire server

Hi All,

I want to know ,what is the best practice if any server is decommissioned .We don't want to enlist that server in discovery dashboard as server not discovered.

If i will change the status of server to Retired ,would it be excluded from discovery also .or i need to delete that server from CMDB .So that it should not visible in discovery dashboard as server not discvered.Please confirm on this .
