I was going throug documentation here : https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/paris-platform-user-interface/page/use/using-forms/task/t_ConfigureTheEditOption.html and found about "reference float" but when I tried to uncheck and check it as listed here, didnt find any difference in the way Problem / Incident related list was working.
Can anybody please help me understand

It is a flag that determines whether to configure the edit option for one-to-many relationships.

Hello,
Incident is assigned to one user and several incidents can be assigned to a user. so when we have this relation we use Reference float .
In this case , you go to the sys_dictionary of te incident table, in the assigned_to field and you check it .
I hope that I answer your question.
Best Regards,
Hajar

When the "Reference Float" is unchecked for "Problem" field on incident table, the incident related list of Problem form will not have the "Edit" button even if the "Omit edit button" is unchecked on "List control" of incident.
So, basically to determine the one-to-many or many-to-many relationship, we use this field.
Hope this will clear your doubt!
