When a change goes to 'assess' state, approval of the change should go to the selected CI's approval group.

You can do this via change approval policy
Create a new Approval definition

What's your question? How are you setting up the approval flow? Is it workflow of flow designer?
And please realize that the community isn't here to do your work for you, but to help on the things you run into and can't get done.
change_request.cmdb_ci.approval group is your dotwalk path to get to the group.

Yes i tried that. But i am not able to choose approval group under the Configuration Item.
