Hi,
Could someone please explain the difference between Status (install_status) vs Operational Status (operational_status), possibly with some examples and when to use which Status?
Thanks

I would expect that most companies might have a different view on the definitions..But my company views them as follows:
I install a new physical server in the data center. I have the hardware on order so i set the status of the server to On Order. Once the unit arrives I change the status to Pending Install. Once I install the server in the rack the status of the server is Installed, but the operation status is set to non-operational. This is because the hardware itself has been installed but has not yet been built and put into Production. Once I complete the server build I submit a change request to get promote the server to production so I change the operations status to Deploying. Once the deployment is complete I change the op status to Operational.
In the end the use of either field is up to the discretion for the company. I have worked for companies that never use the operations status field and only use the status field.
Hope this helps.

Install_status is a field that provides linking between cmdb_ci tables and alm_hardware and allows syncing of values between the tables.
From a quick look, Operational Status is only on the cmdb_ci tables, so too is another field called hardware_status. So a lot comes down to do you have any needs to sync ci's and assets?
