Demand stage field on report different than value when exported.

When I run a report on the Demand table [dmn_demand] and select Stage as one of the columns, I see values such as 'Demand Draft' or 'Demand Approved' or 'Demand Screening'.
However, when I export that report to Excel, the Stage only shows the value of 'demand'.
Why the difference, and can I export with the full Stage?

I am looking for information here as well. Allowing end users to see continuity of base information post demand approval is something that is needed within my org.
