File share access requests from the Service Portal.

I am looking to build a Catalog Item in our Service Portal for requesting access to file shares on our network. I am going to put together a list of shares and hopefully allow the user to pick from list. We will then have a couple different workflows depending on what the user selects. My question is regarding storing these shares in the CMDB, has anyone already accomplished this? I was planning on using powershell to search our file servers for the shared folder and then populate the CMDB. Anyone have a better way of accomplishing this?

@coleschlosser - were you able to come up with a design for storing the shared folders in the CMDB?  We are looking at accomplishing the same.
