How do you manage audio/visual (A/V) / meeting room equipment?

Hi,

How do you manage your audio visual or meeting room equipment such as projectors, screens, conferencing equipment, etc. ?

Do you have a new asset class for them, what do you do for their configuration items - do you create a new class or extend?

Just looking for recommendations & best practice on how to manage these sorts of equipment (surprised it's not standard as most companies have this sort of A/V equipment in meeting rooms etc.)

Thanks!

I have a CI class for them and in asset terms they are hardware.

Models and model categories are needed

The issue for me was where to extend ci class. Are they just a ci, do I need a superclass of av etc?

Where do stuff like chromebox sit. It's a part of a meeting room connected to the av. So facilities ? no Maybe IT? this is a business choice I guess.

Asset tends to be quite simple, they are financial records but folk get obsessed with the physicality and want to talk IT.

Asset is about money an ownership - CI is the stuff or how you have jiggered with it

Hi Baronne,

I wrote an application back in 2010 just for this purpose. I've updated a few times since. You should have no issue finding it on the Share portal via this link. I invite you to check it out...

This is my second go round with AV and ServiceNow. A separate class is recommended because in most cases there is a different team servicing these issues. Also Crestron, VC and all the components have different life cycles.  Firmware versions need to be tracked as well as bulb replacement and differentiating between component failure and user error. Training on these integrated rooms doesn't always flow like it should.

hi Matthew,

Based on your experience, what would be the best class to extend from ?
