How to attach FLOW to knowledge base?

OOB on Knowledge base there is an option to attach workflows. But I dont want that workflow to run, instead want to make use of FLOWS. Is it possible?

You need customizations!

Perhaps you might want to check with ServiceNow if there is anything for this as Workflow is going to be retired...

Firstly to take mandatory away from those workflows!

then either create own field for Flow selection OR just make the FLOW always run when new Article is published (suggest the first one).

Workflow is not being retired. Flow was introduced as another option with a more low-code / no-code option. Both exist and will not retire. The Flow Designer is continuously being enhanced with more capabilities and help move away from heavy coding.
