Even though I'm giving the right username and pw for the selected instance, still the error message pops up

Hi, can you clarify 'remote instance'?

if you are not using any form of auth integration, then the user name and password the instance is validating against are the details configured against the instance user record and the proabable reason is that you are not submitting correct user name or pw.
Have you applied any customizations that may impact the auth process or the content of the sys_user, user_name and user_password  fields?
Also note that OOB both user_name and user_password will accept trailing white space.

Ensure you do not have Use Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) set to true for the user you are using to authenticate and also check the user have nothing in there 'source' field. The other potential reason is your LDAP Properties 'Use LDAP for password authentication' is set to false.

See: https://support.servicenow.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0855298

One final thing to check is that the user you are using to authenticate has an active 'company' value

Hope this helps. Please mark as helpful if it was.
