Knowledge articles adding a "Null" to empty fields in a template on edit

I'm getting this weird behavior out of my Knowledge article templates. When I create an article off a template and leave several fields blank, this publishes correctly, and those empty fields do not appear (as desired). When I make revisions to the article, the editor adds "null" text to every empty field, so when I publish the revision, all those previously empty fields are now exposed with useless text. Is there a script I can disable to prevent this behavior? Seems strange.
