need to update models on assets

Assets were populated from CI's for our initial data load.

The issue I am having is many of my assets have an unknown model since it wasn't listed in the model table. When I look at the CI, it has a model but it is not listed in the asset record itself.

How can I update the model after the fact?

There are a couple things you could do here:

• If you only have a few records to update, you can go to the CI record and update the Model ID there. This will update the Asset as well.
• If you have a lot of records, you could look to use an Import Set to correct the values. Be sure you have a good field (such as Asset tag) to coalesce on so the records are merged instead of creating new records.

The Model ID that I need to correct is listed as Unknown. When I select that field to update, it pulls up Unknown model along with all of the CI's that are listed as Unknown. This field doesn't let me select an existing model. If I make a change here, it will update all of my unknown assets to the same model.

That is because it is filtering on the text that is listed in the field already. Delete the text that is there and start typing the correct value or click the magnifying glass to search for the existing model you want.

You will only update all of your unknown assets to the same model if you click the reference icon (looks like an i in a circle) and update the actual Unknown model record.
