New Instance - Where to start, what to do

Hello Community,

We are a new customer of ServiceNow and very soon we will be transitioning to ServiceNow from another popular ITSM tool (I think you can guess what it is ).

I will be getting some formal training in the first quarter of this year. However, I have already started learning by following the documentation and developer community.

I get lot of questions and try to find answers in the community or in the documentation.

I was wondering, what should we do immediately when we have a new instance? Is there a checklist for things to configure and check on the new system?

Name instance? Setup access/security, roles? etc.

If you are in an instance that runs on Helsinki or Istanbul, then you can take a look at the ITSM Guided Setup (search for it in the left side modules navigator). That will give you an idea of the steps involved in setting up your new instance and the steps involved in implementation. Though not a exhaustive list, it will get you started.

I couldn't find any ITSM guided setup but guided setup under normalization data services. Is this what you were referring to?

Is this an upgraded instance?


In an new instance on Helsinki / Istanbul you will find the ITSM Guided Setup. Refer to screen shot below.



If this is an upgraded instance, please activate the plugin "com.snc.guided_setup_metadata.enterprise" to get the ITSM Guided Setup.
