Status & Sub Status Definitions

Are there any documented definitions or guidance for the Install Status & Sub Status reasons ?

I appreciate not every company sticks with the out of the box (OOB) options and develops their own options or expands on the OOB but looking to see if there is any suggested descriptions ?

Or is it simply down to each company to create their own ?
