Stockroom Questions

I am looking to get some more information from people that use the Stockroom.  I looking in to seeing if the Inventory/stockrooms would fit for our company and I had a couple of questions.

1. Are items added to the stockroom thru the stockroom in ServiceNow?

2. Are reports able to be generated about items that were purchased or issued out with the Stockrooms.

3. When an item(s) are low can specify who gets notified(i.e. a certain company email list)

Hi Dan,

For better understanding & getting quick answers for all your questions I would suggest you to look for System Scheduler >> Scheduled Job & then look for Stock Rule Runner which is resposible for making stockroom work in ServiceNow.

Also, for your questions kindly find my comments in bold.

1. Are items added to the stockroom thru the stockroom in ServiceNow?

Yes, that is the purpose. Inventory of items is maintained if it is to be regulated from ServiceNow.

2. Are reports able to be generated about items that were purchased or issued out with the Stockrooms.

Report can be extracted from system any point in time if it has all necessary details. Considering, when Item is purchased its relevant date is entered in inventory maintained in ServiceNow.

3. When an item(s) are low can specify who gets notified(i.e. a certain company email list)

Notifications are sent out based on rule created in Stock rule (alm_stock_rule) table. If its Vendor then it sends mail to Vendor, if the restock option is Stockroom then mail is sent to Stockroom manager.

Thanks,

Jaspal Singh

Good Afternoon Dan  - Happy Monday.

We have 96 Working Stockrooms and at least 50 Disposal Stockrooms..... Things to think about

1. You add and consume through stockroom transactions- Also transfer between stockrooms.  Hardware is assigned out via the asset record. State and Substate changes. BUT its really cool to have visability to all stockrooms and the models available at a glance.

  • I use them for 100% use it for hardware accountability - BUT only use the consumables for our high demand items (Monitors, Docks, Specialty Keyboards and Mice)   Unique is our Scanners for patient ID Scanning.
  • Start small and build from needs assessment.

2. We do not yet have our procurement module setup - so we are dependent on our vendor reports for purchased consumables or Hardware.  BUT - you can certainly report on what has been consumed over the last months...

3.  Setup stock rules and notification on the Computers ... You can notify multiple people and or groups.  Consumption reports can be generated.

Hope this helps

Rebecca, do you know if ServiceNow stockroom can function as just an inventory management system.  Where it will allow us to use it more as a online store front, instead of a asset management type of system?

Rebecca, if you are not using procurement, what is your trigger to the system to "add" the inventory/assets to the stockrooms?  Is this simply the report you mentioned or the physical delivery of the items?
