  • Performance Analytics enables you to track and aggregate data over time, such as to measure how many tickets are resolved each week per assignment group.
  • Reporting enables you to create and distribute reports that show the current state of instance data, such as how many open incidents of each priority there are. Reporting functionality is available by default for all tables.

If you're still interested (and this topic bothered me a lot for a while as well), the key difference between Performance Analytics (PA) and Reporting is in the process of collecting data.


With Reporting, the data is taken right from a particular table in ServiceNow. You run a report and it shows you the data 'fresh' out of the table. While with Performance Analytics, it's different. It extracts data from tables regularly and stores it. But why could that make such a big difference?



Here's why: the data in tables changes with time. One and the same report can show different things, when run just two days in a row. And this way, reporting can't really show you the trends you need. It only shows the state of data at the moment you see the report. But PA (collecting data from tables, say, daily) can show you how this or that KPI changed through time, displaying the real trends in you data.



But that's not the only difference. In this article, you can find a more explicit description of PA's peculiarities and their comparison to Reporting, if you need to.
