Where are workflow stages stored?

When editing a workflow you can edit the stages. If we add new values to this, it will be specific to this workflow. Where are these workflow version specific stages stored (table)?

So you can find them in Stages Sets under workflow module.

Just checked and the workflow specific stages we added are not on any Stage Set.

I know about the table that Lakshmaiah references. What I don't know is how that table relates to the workflow stage field. Or in general how that table is used. I'm going to follow this post and do some digging too.
