which is the best practice to use user criteria in service catalog?

Hello,
I would like to apply user criteria for service catalog management .went through the product document but still i'm not understanding user criteria use only for catalog item or categories or both. which is the best practice to apply this?kindly share your thoughts.

Yes aware of user criteria .but my question is should i apply for categories aslo after applied to item?

No Need to !!
If you apply it to Item then that item will be available / not available for User Criteria.

Hi Aravind,
Best practise is to apply User Criteria on Category basis. Lets take an example:
Note: You cannot see a Catalog Category in Placeholder, until you add any Catalog Item in it. (You can try this)
Now, you have a Catalog Category and inside that you have 2 Catalog Items, even if you applied a criteria on Catalog Item level, then also the end user will be able to see only that particular Catalog Category (since Items are present in it, though they are made hidden using User Criteria).
So to resolve this now, we will apply criteria on Catalog Category so that entire Category along with Catalog Items in it will be made available to certain users only.
