Abstract:
The National Cancer Institute has the national mission to lead, conduct, and support cancer research across the nation to advance scientific knowledge and help all people live longer, healthier lives. Similar to many federal organizations the NCI needs to modernize many administrative processes, from purchasing and acquisitions to grant processing and portfolio reporting. The NCI is on a course of modernization through digital transformation. The goal is to reduce the administrative burden on mission staff through process simplification, automation, and user interaction centralization. Platform computing is central to NCI’s digital transformation. ServiceNow is being utilized by NCI for ITSM, relationship management, and application development for tasks that require workflow, approvals and process management. NCI’s vision is to expand the use of ServiceNow beyond administrative process automation to scientific process and clinical research study coordination.
