SSO and Mid server

Hi I need to implement sso for service now and have been told I need to set up a mid server to do this. I looked through some of the documentation and cannot see the relationship a mid server has to sso . Am I missing something or just not understanding something about what a mid server does?

To what I can recall and as per my experience, I have not heard or seen any SSO implementation via MID server.
It could be probably about, LDAP Integration via MID Server (you can refer to this link for details).
The MID server (Management, Instrumentation, and Discovery) is designed to ease communication with external systems. It is rather special, since it does not run on the instance; it is Java software that is installed in a customer's infrastructure.
MID Server is used as a middle ware between service now and different data base servers to perform modifications at data level. MID server is used to import the data into service now.
