Auto formatting on knowledge articles?

Magnus Hovik

When our authors paste content from Word, emails, or AI tools into the knowledge editor, it always seems to get weird when published.  Font sizes for instance. There's the "Clear formatting" button that fixes it, but we'd love to skip that manual step entirely.

Has anyone configured the editor so that formatting gets stripped automatically on paste, ideally keeping things like headings and lists, but dropping all the inline styles and external CSS?

For instance, when I do the same here in the forum and click post it gives "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.". Something like this!

I might have asked the question wrongly/incorrent based on my understanding of the editor. If so please let me know😄

Hi Magnus

Since you are talking about MS word, why not using import functionality instead to use cut and paste?

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/servicenow-platform/knowledge-management/import-word-platform.html...

Sorry for the confusion. I wrote Word, but in reality its rarely from Word but rather from websites / AI tools (chatgpt / claude...). So we dont use the import function.

We have this a little easier now Copilot is Word and there is the KM Plugin for MS Word

Has been a longstanding issue for us also so very interested in this too.  Waiting to get Enhanced Editor up and running to see if it handles any better there but like you we just have to use the 'Clear formatting' option to strip it back which is counter productive.
