Hey y'all
I am currently working on a recategorizing a knowledge base and realized that some of the knowledge categories could be better under a different parent category. Now is there a way I can change the parent ID of a category? or do I have deactivate the original knowledge category and just recreate it under the correct parent ID?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you,
Frank

Hi
I just checked in my instance and it is read only , better you deactivate and recreate in proper parent ID. Also make sure you are aware about consequences before deactivating existing categories as they would be referred in any existing KB articles. Mark my answer as correct if that helps.

Create your new categories. Then do a mass edit on all your articles (All states) to new categories. THEN mark old categories inactive or delete. You won't be able to delete if the category exists in any article, any state.

I think this may come down to permissions Frank. I've updated the parent ID of some categories recently, using the spyglass option as per the image below. I clicked on the spyglass then searched for either another category, or a knowledge base (if the category should be top level). I have admin rights on my instance though, so you may need similar access, or at least knowledge admin.
Thanks,
Barry.
