Knowledge Base Descriptions - What's the Purpose?

After setting up a knowledge portal for our internal associates, I've been receiving feedback from leadership that they would like for there to be a short description for each kb. The idea being that many users don't know what a kb is for just by the title. I've always utilized the "Description" field for the knowledge bases that exists in the Admin panel, but can't figure out what, if anything, that does. 

Is there a way to have the description display on the KB tile, or is it just something internal that doesn't really have a function?

If you're speaking of the description itself on the Knowledge Base. Then as far as I know, it is not viewable to anyone that does not have access to shall we say the "back side".

The description seems to me quite clear.
We are using that for internal communication between authors and approver for speeding up evaluation.
e.g we just replaced picture
