Knowledge Article Linking Attachments

When I link attachments in knowledge articles using the linking tool and choose "Open link in new window", it will auto-download when clicked unless I type "&view=true" behind the sys id.

Does anyone know why this is? I'm relatively new to ServiceNow and very new to knowledge management.

Thank you!

Hi @Meg Glur,

Are you looking to preview the attachments without actually downloading them? If yes, you could consider learning more about Document Viewer (servicenow.com).

Hi @Meg Glur

Yes, that is the expected behaviour of the attachments in Knowledge Articles.

Thank you both for your responses. I will definitely look into Document Viewer.

Just so I understand, the expectation for "open in a new window" is to automatically download? When an attached document is clicked, I want that document to open and be viewable in a new window, not to automatically download. As it is, when I attach a document and only use the option open in a new window, it doesn't open in a new window at all and only automatically downloads.

It just seems odd that choosing the open in a new window option alone doesn't do the trick.

As mentioned before, we have found a workaround by adding &view=true, I just wanted to know if that was the best option.

Thank you!

Yep, Document Viewer will definitely help you with that. See the images below.
