Next Experience UI Utah Release Notes
It's release time again and we've introduced a lot of great features for Next Experience! Some features are included with the family release, and some are introduced via the ServiceNow Store. We'll have academy sessions, deep dives, and more information on the topics the closer we get to GA. For now here's an overview of what can be expected.
Be sure to check out our Next Experience Academy session for the Utah release as we cover these new features.
We'll also cover Theme Builder on Creator Toolbox and Live Coding Happy Hour.
Theme Builder
Theme Builder is a standalone application that can be downloaded from the Store as of February 2023. Prior to the launch of Theme Builder in the Utah release, theming had to be done via manually inputting JSON into the theme record directly. With Theme Builder you can build a theme easily with a user-friendly GUI and apply the theme to your instance without having to touch code.
With Theme Builder you can define your theme and style records such as brand colors, logo, typography, and corner shapes with a wizard. Once a theme has been defined, you can edit it further using a style panel to edit brand attributes at a global level. Use Theme Builder to preview the theme on your instance in real time before applying it to the instance. Manage and apply your themes with the management page.
Dark Theme
Our dark mode variant has been out since San Diego, but receives a full polishing in the Utah release. Building on top of support for Next Experience Pages (San Diego) and Classic Environment Forms and Lists (Tokyo) there is now additional features for dark mode on:
- Dashboards, Dashboard Overview, Dashboard Widgets, and Analytics Hub
- Report Designer/Builder, all Reports and Performance Analytics Widgets
- Knowledge Articles, Service Catalog, Virtual Agent Client, and Visual Task Board
Favorites Grouping
With Next Experience UI enabled, users can now create groups for their favorites and group favorited items. Users can add Favorite menu items to groups from the Favorite star in the Contextual App Pill using the new Favorite Quick Add pop-up. For existing favorites, drag and drop your favorited items into the group.
Multi-Menu Filtering
Users will be able to filter in a menu and get results from that menu as well as the other menus they have access to, so they no longer have to filter each menu individually. By default, filtering in any of the menus returns results from all menus except the History menu.
Customizable In-Product Notifications
Define in-product notifications for Next Experience or Workspaces based upon defined triggers. Admins can define triggers for notifications for Next Experience or Workspaces and define the content within the notifications. Users will receive in product notification if they are defined in the recipients field.
Guided Tours
Guided Tours are now supported with Next Experience UI enabled in Utah (as well as Tokyo Patch 4+ and San Diego Patch 9+). Run existing Guided Tours or create new ones to run on classic environment pages. Check out this article on how to create a Guided Tour for Next Experience Unified Navigation.
Some functionality to note:
Guided Tours aren't supported in Next Experience pages, such as configurable workspaces or pages configured in UI Builder using the Next Experience UI Framework. However, the following scenarios are supported with Next Experience enabled.
- Creating and running new or existing Guided Tours in the Classic Environment (including lists and forms).
- Creating and running new or existing Guided Tours for a Service Portal.
- Creating new Guided Tours for Unified Navigation menus (such as the All or Favorites menus).
Fore more information see the Guided Tours product documentation.
Follow
Get notified when a work note or comment is added to a record by following it in the classic environment in Next Experience. When comments or work notes are added to the record, you receive notifications as banners and in the Notifications menu according to your notification preferences. You can select the notification to open the record that was updated.
Note: The Follow button is not applicable to Configurable Workspaces or Agent Workspace, as of the Utah release.
