Theme Tile is missing under Profile -> Preferences..

I was creating new themes yesterday in Utah with the new theme builder and I accidentally selected the button 'apply to mobile and web' and then selected 'apply' when I got the message 'this will replace in all web experiences & Polaris in all mobile experiences." It is when I did this we no longer have the ability to change themes under the user profile and preferences. I can't figure out how to get this back. I reviewed KB1124260 from ServiceNow and glide.ui.polaris.use is still active.

Hello! You lost the ability to select "Themes" from the user preferences panel because your new theme doesn't have any "Variants" or "Alternate color palettes" attached to it. I would go back to Theme Builder, select the Polaris theme, and set it as your active theme there - then you'll get this option back.

The reason is that an instance can only have one active "Theme" record at a time, and what you are seeing in the "Themes" menu in user preference aren't themes, they are the currently active theme's Variants or Alternate Color Palettes. The Polaris theme has one variant - the "Dark theme" variant, so out of the box you see the themes selection box in user preferences. Your new theme had no variants, so you didn't see it selected there.

In order to add a Variant/Alternate color palette to your current theme in Utah, you have to go through and create one manually through the classic environment. In Vancouver, we have added the ability to create alternate color palettes directly through Theme Builder, but you are not able to create your own Dark Theme Variants for your Themes just yet. If you need to have a Dark Theme Variant, you should stick to using the Polaris theme for the time being.

EDIT 9/5/24:

The theming paradigm has had a massive shift as of the Xanadu release. I encourage everyone looking for the most recent and up to date information on theming to check out this Next Experience Academy video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATFPf9Kpej4

Everything in this post is accurate as of the versions mentioned, but check the video for the newest information as of xanadu!

Thank you! So it looks like until we get to Vancouver, I will not be able to make any additional themes to allow us to tell the difference between DEV-TEST-PROD? which was what I was primarily trying to do and you can't add any additional variant/alternate color palette to Polaris.

You won't be able to add more variants to Polaris in vancouver either.

You should be able to create a theme for each instance by going into the instance and creating a theme builder theme in each of them to differentiate them, if you don't need a dark theme. If you do need a dark theme, you would have to wait past vancouver as creating dark themes for custom themes is a feature we are looking in to right now but I can't say when it will release.

So I can create one theme as I have in DEV i.e. Blues and apply that since we don't need a dark theme but then that is the only theme Dev can have correct? The theme tile will go away as it did before. Then do the same for TEST but then leave PROD as the default Polaris.

Just want to make sure I understand!!
