Dashboard - Catalog Item Variables search tool/widget

Is there a way to add a free-form text search widget to a Dashboard that can search the contents of custom variable columns on the attached reports?

By way of illustration - imagine I have a Catalog Item with custom variables  for "Check Amount" and "Payor".  I build a report that includes many columns:  built in ones like RITM number, State, Opened By as well as the custom fields Check Amount and Payor.

I add the report to a Dashboard.  I add in my custom widget to filter by date ranges, but I also want a widget to search the report for a specific check amount or for a specific payor.

I am hoping there's something OOTB for this, but my gut tells me I need to figure out how to do it with a custom PA widget that targets the item_option_new table (custom variables), but beyond that I am at a loss.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here are instructions on how to create a simple custom interactive filter, have you checked that?

You may need to create a separate filter for the variables, I'm not sure if it's possible to target multiple tables in single filter.
