Can a standard user upload an image to a Platform Analytics dashboard?

I click through all the steps, but the image doesn’t finish uploading and is not visible on dashboard. I can only get the image to upload with admin Role. If the dashboard image loading is limited to just admin, then why can a standard user go through all the steps without any error message? Either a standard user should be able to upload an image, or the user should be prevented from going through the steps unless they are admin.

Steps to reproduce:

Impersonate any PDI standard user, (example: ITIL).

Create Platform Analytics dashboard.

Click Add new element button and choose Image.

In Choose a custom image dialog click on Upload new image.

Drop an image or click browse to load any image.

Observe the image appears to load as shown in attached image.

Click Apply button and nothing happens, no error messages, the image element remains unchanged with the default image.

Note, image uploads fine for admin user.

A regular user can't, uploading images is tied to admin and image_admin roles.

A regular user can't upload an image, it is restricted to admin, content_admin and image_admin roles.

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that special roles were always needed to upload images in the past. However, how can I suggest to ServiceNow that the UI/UX of the new Platform Analytics dashboard editor let's a standard user go through all the steps but doesn't upload or give any error messages.  I would like to suggest to ServiceNow that it would be a better experience for standard users if they either allow general dashboard editors to load images for a dashboard or prevent the user from going through all the steps or at least give a message to help the user.

I whole heartedly agree with this post and statement. I opened a ticket with ServiceNow and their response was to create an ACL for our ITIL users to allow them to upload to the db_image table.  They associated it to a problem but I received an update on 6/11/25 stating 'We have got update on PRB that it wont be fixed in future release. ' I agree the UI/UX should prevent from users going through the process if they don't have permissions to write to the table where images are stored.
