Data Source in Platform Analytics Workspace

Hi All,

Can we use 'Data Source' in Platform Analytics Workspace?

I see options for only for 'Tables' and 'Indicators', not for Data Source.

Thanks.

Hi @Rakshanda Kunte ,

In the Performance Analytics Workspace, you primarily work with tables and indicators.

Tables represent the underlying data source in the ServiceNow platform, and indicators are expressions or aggregations based on that data. When you create indicators, you choose the source table and define conditions to filter the data.

If you're looking to work with data from an external source or connect to a different data repository, ServiceNow might provide integration capabilities or plugins. However, the standard Performance Analytics Workspace is generally designed to operate within the ServiceNow ecosystem, focusing on tables and indicators based on ServiceNow platform data.

If you have specific requirements related to external data sources, you may need to explore ServiceNow's integration capabilities or seek guidance from ServiceNow documentation and support.

Thanks,

Danish

I have slightly different requirement. When adding incident table as a data source. I want to create a derived column. This column will hold a substring of one of the existing columns. Ex: I want to get a substring of the existing column short description into this new derived column and use the derived column to group by iny graph. Is this possible?

Hi @Rakshanda Kunte

yes, you are right. In the Platform Analytics Workspace, there is no individual option for "data source" as you know it from the classic report designer. But at the end these data sources ware nothing else than pre-configurations for tables plus filters.

Hi @Rakshanda Kunte

In Platform Analytics Workspaces  you can find what previously in the reporting was called "data source" under Table -> predefined condition. So e.g. when you select specific table in the configuration first field will be option to select predefined condition - you will see there all the "data sources" that are based on that table.

Hope that helps,
