Data Visualization designer query - Australia version

when i select 'Create New Visualization', the visualization type is set as 'Single Score' by default and i get the message "Unable to display content"(as shown in screenshot). This message disappears only when either the data source or visualization type is updated. 
Is this an expected behavior?

That is expected behavior. Since it’s the first time the data visualization is loading, it initially shows a single score along with the error UI indicating there is no data source. There’s nothing to worry about — it can be used as is.

When I create a data visualization, I see something entirely different, which clearly tells me that I need to select a data source, unless I want to select the chart type first.
