Disable Export option for non admin users in platform analytics for specific tables

We are looking to restrict the Export option in Platform Analytics for non-admin users on specific sensitive tables:

  • sys_user
  • sys_user_group
  • Business Application (cmdb_ci_business_app)

The requirement is that non-admin users should still be able to view dashboards, reports, and apply filters as per their access, but should not be able to export data from these tables through Platform Analytics.

Please review and advise on the feasible approach or recommended configuration to implement this restriction while keeping export functionality available for admin users.

Hi,

For this requirement, start by checking par_export, as Platform Analytics uses it as part of the visualization export process.

 

The requirement can be handled as:

Non-admin + sensitive table >> Prevent export
Admin >> Allow export

Before making any customization, check whether the export logic can be restricted based on the source table and user role.

 

I would avoid hiding the Export option with a client-side customization, since that only changes the UI and does not necessarily prevent the export itself.

 

Also test the behavior separately for sys_user, sys_user_group, and cmdb_ci_business_app, as the export behavior can depend on the visualization and underlying data security.

 

If par_export does not provide the required table-level control in your Australia release, this may require a ServiceNow-supported enhancement rather than modifying the OOTB Platform Analytics components.
